CA Open 2008: Event Information

Welcome to the 2008 California Open. This year's event will be held at the Corky McMillin Events Center formally known as the NTC Library at Liberty Station. Click here for more photos and maps of this and exciting venue.

Special Events

   February 8, Friday

  • Reception - No Host Cocktails and Auction 6-10 p.m. in Show Hall

    Kick off a great weekend and enjoy the refreshments, entertainment and friends. Carvers and painters are encouraged to bring a miniature carving or painting for the auction. These "Cocktail Class" contributions help cover the expense of this event. Trophies will be awarded to the People's Choice World Champions. Don't miss the fun!

  •     February 9, Saturday Evening 6-10 PM in the Show Hall
  • No Host Cocktails, Banquet, and Auction

    The no-host social hour will be followed by the annual banquet at 7 PM and auction at 8:30 PM. Banquet price is $35 per person. Those unable to attend the banquet are invited to join us for the auction at 8:30 PM. Banquet tickets will be limited, so please make your reservations early, by filling out the Banquet Reservation Form (.pdf format).

    This year's banquet tables will feature a centerpiece with a cinnamon teal wing carved by a PSWA member. At the end of the banquet, one lucky table-member will be awarded that table's centerpiece.

     

  •     February 9 & 10 Saturday & Sunday
    • FREE Seminars
      A series of eight one hour seminars will be presented by distinguished judges. IWCA birds, Soon-to-Be Antiques, Fish Carving and Painting will be discussed.

    • Painting Contest, Saturday 1-3pm
      Open to all carvers. Competitors supply their own entry. Sealed and primed only. Any species (bird or fish), any size. No burning or machine texturing. Judging will be on artistry and painting skills only. All entries will be auctioned with artist receiving 50% plus any prize money. Awards: 1st - $200.00; 2nd - $100.00; 3rd - $75.00

    • Al Deddens Memorial Youth Painting Event
      Open to children under 17 from 1 to 3p.m. on Sunday. Participating youths paint a Cinnamon Teal decoy silhouette to take home. Sponsored by the Northern Study Group.

    • Old Decoys
      Noel Silverman will be available to appraise your old decoys. Bring some along to trade or sell.

  • 9:30am - Judging begins for all Carving Divisions
  • 1:00pm - 3:00pm Painting Contest
